Sony Entertainment Television’s actors talk about new beginnings on the festive occasion of Makar Sankranti!

As per the Hindu calendar, the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti would be celebrated on the 14th of January this year. Renewing ourselves with every festival that marks a fresh start is something Indians do well! Looking at this tradition, stars of #SonyEntertainmentTelevision’s library of shows talk about how they plan to celebrate Makar Sankranti.

Aditi Dev Sharma who essays the role of Katha in Kathaa Ankahee shares, “Being a Punjabi we celebrate Makar Sankranti as Lohri. Lohri marks the beginning of festivities in our country which means welcoming positivity, good vibes and blessings of the almighty. I am extremely excited about the festival this year as I will try to spend it with my family and have a lot of fun together. We will buy some colourful kites and munch on some mouth-watering til ke ladoos. On this auspicious day, I hope this year brings you incredible opportunities to accomplish your biggest goals and experience the transformational rewards of your hard work. Wishing you a happy and prosperous Makar Sankranti!”

Hiten Tejwani who essays the role of Lakhan in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain 2 shares, “This is one of the biggest festivals in India apart from Diwali as it is celebrated all over albeit with different names (Pongal, Bihu, Lohri and Sankranti). I remember my childhood days in Surat where we used to go to the markets looking out for the most colourful and vibrant kites and manjhas. It used to be good fun back then; in fact I had specially learnt to make maanjha dhaar wala with my friends. Makar Sankranti has always been about good food for me. As a kid, my mornings would start early by performing a small pooja at home and then gorging on Tilgud ladoos and other sweets prepared by my mother. My fondest memory would be to taking a box of tilgud ladoos for friends, flying kites on our terrace and just getting engrossed in the celebrations. We used to have a mini party with music systems all over the terraces playing the latest music and everyone getting food and sweets from home adding colours to the celebrations. Over the years the celebration style has changed and we now we just do a pooja and eat a til ki mithai and say TIL GUL GHYA AANI GOD-GOD BOLA.”

Aetashaa Sansgiri who essays the role of Ahilyabai in Punyashlok Ahilyabai says, “Makar Sankranti holds a great significance for me. What I like most about the festival is that we wear black on this day and black, my favourite colour, makes me happy. In my childhood, my mother used to make black silk frocks for me which I wore so fondly. And even now I have a lot of black sarees which I love to wear especially on this occasion. Also, Kite flying is one of the most fun activities during Sankranti. We all have loads of fun celebrating, getting together for kite flying and eating sweet delicacies. It is a festival for peace and prosperity and about new beginnings. I simply enjoy the entire experience of kite flying, having puran poli and til ke ladoos. The best part is to see beautiful and colourful kites up in the sky, making the entire atmosphere festive and joyful. Here’s wishing everyone a very happy Makar Sankranti and TIL GUL GHYA AANI GOD-GOD BOLA.”

Judge of MasterChef India, Garima Arora shares, “Makar Sankranti is the first holiday of the year in our country, and with it comes the chance to welcome the new year with good energy and heavenly favour. The festival is going to be fantastic this year, and I cannot wait! A happy and fruitful Makar Sankranti to you all! Enjoy some til gudd ladoo and Puran Poli now. Make the most of your time at the festival.”

Indian Idol 13 contestant Shivam Singh from Vadodara shares, “I have my fondest memories tied to this festival of kites. I enjoy flying kites. During my childhood, I used to carefully spend money given by my mother to buy kites. The most fun part for me was to fly kites which I ran behind for. I miss the enthusiasm of this festival but this year, I finally had the chance to fly kites on the set of Indian idol 13 with all the contestants while munching on til gudd laddoos. Happy Makar Sankranti to all.”
