Achal Mishra’s ‘docu-fiction’ “Dhuin” to stream on MUBI!
MUBI, the global distributor, streaming service, and production company, is pleased to announce that #AchalMishra’s Dhuin will be available to stream exclusively on MUBI in India from 10 February 2023. Available in Hindi and Maithili, #Dhuin, made its world premiere at the MAMI Mumbai Film Festival 2022 (online). The film stars Abhinav Jha, Bijay Kumar Sah, Prashant Rana and Ankush Prasad. It was also screened at several marquee film festivals including Marche` Du Film 2022, which is organised alongside the Cannes Film Festival, in France, International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala 2022, and MoMA New York: Making Waves, A New Generation of Indian Independent Filmmakers 2022.
For Dhuin, Mishra returns once again to Darbhanga, the setting of his debut film Gamak Ghar. Dhuin is the story of Pankaj, a small-town theatre actor dreaming of making it big in Mumbai. In the midst of financial hardship post-lockdown, he is forced to weigh his dreams against his family’s obligations. This 50-minute feature film uses excellent cinematic vocabulary to convey Pankaj’s story.
The film is directed, produced, and edited by Achal Mishra, a young filmmaker from Darbhanga, Bihar. Gamak Ghar, a docu-fiction that premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival, 2019 and won the Manish Acharya Award for New Voices in Indian Cinema, marked his debut as a filmmaker.
