Review : Dasara : Raw action and Nani’s super performance!
For many years a lot of films from the south have been remade in Hindi and in recent times there’s an increase in that. Later after a couple of, dubbed in Hindi, south films, e.g. Master, Pushpa etc., became superhits, a lot of southern films have started Pan India trend by releasing south language films in Hindi too. To join the list is Nani starrer Dasara which is an out and out Masala film catering to the masses. With Dasara, Srikanth Odela is debuting into direction and he has done a good job. It’s Nani’s first Pan-Indian film and the efforts he has put in this film are certainly laudable.
Dharani (Nani) stays in a village, Veerapalle, known to be a boozard village, as almost all the men throng the only liquor bar, Silk Bar. Everybody drinks local liquor to their heart’s content and do not seem to be involved in any other activity. Dharani and Soori (Dheekshith Shetty) are childhood friends and Dharani is in love with his school mate Venella (Keerthi Suresh). But Soori too is fond of her and declares his love to his best friend Dharani. Dharani sacrifices his love and arranges Soori’s marriage with Venella. Dharani gets Soori elected as Sarpanch toppling Chinna Nambi (Shine Tom Chako), a local politician. On his wedding day Soori gets killed and to avoid the societies pressures on Venella, Dharani marries her. Chinna Nambi too, though married, is in love with Venella which creates friction in the lives of Dharani and Venella. What transpires after and in between forms the crux of the story.
Director Srikanth Odela makes a nice debut with Dasara, though there should have been more efforts put in the writing. The climax scene is laboriously shot and is the highlight of the film. The second half is pacy and holds viewers’ attention. Sharad Kelkar has done a fabulous job in dubbing for Nani. Production values are high and the action choreography is done beautifully. Music is good and helps the narration. ‘Jersey’ guy Nani has done a fabulous job and his swift action scenes are praiseworthy. He scores in emotional scenes too. National award winner Keerthi Suresh regales in her de-glam role. She has displayed contrasting emotions effortlessly. Dheekshith Shetty has done a good job and Shine Tom Chacko too is good in the movie though his character should have been actively involved in the menace he created. Sai Kumar, Samuthirakani, Purnaa lend good support.
‘Dasara’ has raw action and Nani Keerthi Suresh’s performances are super.
