The 20th Third Asian Film Festival starts from 12th January 2024!
The 20th #ThirdAsianFilmFestival, which is the benchmark of film culture in Maharashtra, will be organized from 12 to 18th January 2024 in Mumbai and Thane. The selected films will be screened at #CityLightCinema, Mahim and Thakur College of Commerce and Science in Kandivali.
At the beginning of 21stcentury, globalization brought about a revolution in the film industry. Films from abroad, especially Hollywood and Europe, became easily accessible to Indian audiences. But at the same time, the Asian films that were playing globally were not reaching the audience. Asian Film Foundation started organizing Third Eye Asian Film Festival with the aim of showing these films which are popular in various International Film Festivals to the audience of Mumbai and other cities of Maharashtra. The first festival was held on August 3, 2002. This film festival is being organized in Mumbai for the last nineteen years.
In the 20th edition of Third Eye Asian Film Festival, the Asian Spectrum section includes twelve films from Indonesia, Egypt, Nepal, Bangladesh, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. Seven films from Iran will be shown in the country focus section.
Along with Asian films, the competition section of Indian films and Marathi films will be the attraction of the festival. The Indian film section includes twelve films in Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, Bengali, Assamese, Marathi languages. It includes House of Cards, Deep Fridge, Seuj Sandhan, Episode 13, Aaro Ek Prithibi, Mini, Aatmapamphlet, This story does not have a name, Family, Whispers of Fire & Water, Bijoyar Pore, Gorai Phakhri
Nine Marathi films will be screened in the Marathi competition section. Sthala [ Dir. Jayant Somalkar], Madar [Dir.Mangesh Badar] , Raghuveer [Dir.Nilesh Kunjir], Maharashtra Shaheer [Dir. Kedar Shinde ], Sala Te Sala Na Te [ Dir. Santosh Kolhe], Giraki [Dir. Kavita Datir/Amit Sonawane ] , Territory [ Dir Sachin Shriram], Gaabh [Dir. Anup Jatratkar], Jitraab [Dir. Tanaji Mahadeo Ghadge], are included in this competition category.
On the occasion of the birth centenary year of the well-known Bengali director Mrinal Sen, the festival will have retrospective of his films.
This year, a special award for film writing will be given in memory of late Sudhir Nandgaonkar.
Along with the film screening, Open Forum by distinguished judges, master classes with directors and technicians will be organised during the Festival.
