Review : Amaltash : Lyrically poetic romantic tale!

Most of the times protagonist suffering from deadly diseases do get viewers’ sympathy, and if the screenplay and story if handled well it does well commercially too. Anand is the best example wherein the lead character was suffering from a malignant cancer but he insists on living life with gusto despite knowing that his days are numbered. Of course despite a story and acting it was directed by #HrishikeshMukherjee. A marathi movie #Amaltash deals with a situation of the protagonist suffering from brain disease but goes on with life and dives deep into his passion, music. It’s directed by a debutant director #SuhasDesale who has handled the subject delicately and ably. He has managed to go through all character’s emotions and has used music to the advantage of the narration.

Rahul (Rahul Deshpande) is the lead singer of a band but due to brain stroke the band stops performing and instead they start a music shop in Pune where musical instruments are repaired. Post his brain stroke he lives with his sister and brother-in-law (Deepti Mate and Bhushan Mate) and his niece Dimple (Trisha Kunte). Keerti Potdar (Pallavi Paranjpe) comes down from Canada to visit her grandmother (Pratibha Padhye). Rahul visits Padhye residence to tune piano and Keerti and Rahul interact. They have a common interest, music. Keerti is a singer too and both bond over music and start spending time together. They start walking down the romance path but Rahul reveals to Keerti about his fragile state of health. What happens next and in between forms the crux of the story.

The setting of story is pleasant and the subtle handling of emotions adds to the authenticity of the film. The emotional situations are tenderly handled by the director who also is credited for the story along with Mayuresh Wagh and Pallavi Paranjpe. The screenplay takes viewers back and forth making the narration interesting. The director keeps viewers interested in the proceedings and the this musical love story is deftly handled by all departments. Music is the highlight of the film which touches one’s heartstrings. The songs, crooning and instrumental pieces are outstanding. Rahul Deshpande has done a super job and he proves that he is an actor too despite being a classical singer. He was seen earlier in Mi Vasantrao which fetched National Award, but Amaltash was his first film as an actor. Debutant Pallavi Paranjpe is just outstanding as Keerti. She convinces you with her accent that she actually has returned from Canada. She is an outstanding singer too and to sing alongside Rahul Deshpande and get noticed is her achievement. Deepti Mate, Bhushan Mate, Trisha Kunte, Pratibha Padhye and other lend solid support to make the film still stronger.

Amaltash is a lyrically poetic romantic tale which will strum your heartstrings.
