“It’s a familial atmosphere on the sets and I am enjoying shooting even with restrictive surroundings”, says Sharvani Pillai
After partial lifting of lockdown, entertainment industry started functioning cautiously. After shooting fresh episodes of popular serials, television channels took a step further and started announcing new serials. Due to corona virus pandemic a lot of new serial’s launch was deferred. But with viewers posing faith in channel’s programmes, Star Pravah announced yet another new serial, “Mulgi Jhali Ho’. Sharvani Pillai, who plays a pivotal role in it interacted with Cine Buster and below are the excerpts from that chat.
How ‘Mulgi Jhali Ho’ is different from other serials?
I am active in acting field for a very long time and haven’t come across such concept. When I heard this serial’s story I instantly agreed to do it. The subject of the serial is very sensitive. This serial will convey a social message too. The serial will beautifully tell the story of how a mother stands up for her daughter and her principles. I have an old and fond relationship with Star Pravah. I have been featured in a lot of serials with this channel, earlier. I am very excited for the serial to go on air.
Tell us something about your character in ‘Mulgi Jhali Ho’…
Talking of my character, I play a mother who is very supportive of her daughter’s views. She stands firm against the opposition for a girl child and takes full responsibility to herself. She is docile by nature, for reasons, which may unfold during the course of episodes, which viewers will relate to. I get satisfaction as an actor while performing this character. My co-stars Kiran Mane and Savita Malpekar are extremely supportive and cooperative. For that matter the whole unit is damn sweet towards me. (Smiles). Frankly, it’s a familial atmosphere on the sets and I am enjoying shooting even with restrictive surroundings.
You play mother to a child artist. How’s your chemistry with her, on and off set?
She is so cute that we call her ‘Maau’ (cute kitten). She won our hearts in the initial interactions itself. She’s a quick leaner and grasps things very fast. I simply adore her and you’ll get see our chemistry on screen. I am happy that the serial’s promos are getting positive responses. You told us about social message in this serial. Can you elaborate?
Yes. That’s right. There’s social message which will be conveyed. The statement ‘Mulgi Jhali Ho’, carries two meanings. Happy and sad. There are (many) instances where girl foetus was killed in the womb. Now there’s a law against determining gender during pregnancy. For want of a son, girl child is strangulated before the birth. This serial certainly underlines these facts and stresses on the importance of girls in the society. It may sound a little heavy but our director has presented it in a softer manner without letting it’s importance wash away.
