Review : Gabru Gang could be a path breaking film in sports drama genre!
Any kind of sport helps in infusing competitiveness and disciple in life. It allows and trains a person to fight life’s difficulties without succumbing to the pressure. It commands respect too from others. There are many indoor and outdoor sports. Kite flying too is considered a sport and kite flying competitions do take place in different parts of our country and world. In a new movie #GabruGang this sport is used to showcase different emotions and competitiveness among the various characters.
Rajbeer (Abhishek Duhan) is a young lad from Punjab who forms a Gabru Gang in childhood and keeps winning Hi-Fly Kite Flying competitions. They become famous around the neighbouring villages and their winning streak continues till Rajbeer faces defeat from Harry of Dilli Shahzade. In between he starts liking Ginni (Srishti Rode) who is his neighbour. Rajbeer’s friends accuse him of losing focus due to his closeness to Ginni. In fact the loss in kite flying competition shatters him and he decides to dissolve his ‘gang’. Later after a gap of around 7-8 years he decides to bounce back in his favourite sports. What transpires later and in between forms the crux of the story.
The story has involved an interesting sport like kite flying but the predictiveness of the incidents doesn’t heighten the expectations. The screenplay uses family values and camaraderie between the ‘gang’ nicely. The director’s treatment to the plot is simple yet effective. The inter personal relations are astutely handled. Dialogues help to elevate the drama in the proceedings. The cinematography is excellent and the raw beauty of Punjab’s interiors is beautifully captured. Music is good and helps the narrative. Abhishek Duhan delivers a ‘hi-flying’ performance and portrays his role with utmost sincerity. Srishti Rode lights up the screen with her beautiful presence. She scores in emotional as well romantic scenes. The camaraderie between the friends is well executed by all the actors. Avatar Gill, Aarti Puri, Abhilash Kumar, Mukesh Bhatt, Kawalpreet Singh, Brajesh Tiwari lend good support.
This ‘Hi-Fly’ sports drama, Gabru Gang, could be a path breaking film in sports drama genre.
