Seema Kapoor: The entertainment industry is more corporate now and deadlines always linger!
Be it theatre, TV, or films, actress Seema Kapoor has done it all, and continues to shine. The actress, who has been part of projects such as #Udaariyaan, #Kurukshetra, #Virasat, #Silsila, #Janam-janam, #Knock-Knock, #Hasratein, #Padosan, #Lok-Parlok, #Sapnay, #Navrang, says that the industry has changed a great deal.
“The entertainment industry has altered drastically, it’s more corporate now and deadlines always linger. It is more sophisticated technically as well. Earlier, I used to have direct meetings with the producer to hear my role and to sign contracts with them. There used to be just one production manager, who handled all our issues. It was much simpler and less complicated. These days, there are so many departments handling stuff, half the time I’m unaware as to who is who and that gets difficult to remember,” she says.
She adds, “Those days, producers and channels finalise us based on our name and work history; whereas these days there are creatives and casting people who prefer to audition even renowned actors and that is cumbersome. Those days we had weekly telecasts so we could pick other good work as well but now due to daily’s, it’s not easy to pick up good work simultaneously. Many more changes are there which I feel aren’t required as much as clarity and competency suffers.”
But some things have worked out for the better as well, she says. “Thanks to multiple platforms, there is more opportunity for work, exposure and exceptional roles. In acting, one has to be more subtle and realistic than before. Yet, it all depends on the demand of the character and scenes. Your instinct has to be sharp enough to grasp and justify the role since I don’t follow the bandwagon or set rules to anything,” she says.
