Stark and Palatable!
Indu’s husband Navin Sarkar (Tota Roy Chowdhary), a government employee, believes in using the state of Emergency to advance his career, but a moral and ideological discrepancy makes his wife Indu (Kirti Kulhari) rebel against him and step out on her own individual path.

THE PLUS POINTS:
Madhur Bhandarkar breaks away from his usual formula of “unmasking” a particular industry and roots his fictitious tale in the factual setting of the state of Emergency that the country was shrouded in from 1975 to 1977. Kirti Kulhari shoulders the responsibility of the central role with a lot of earnestness. Tota Roy Chowdhury makes for a good foil to Indu.Anupam Kher leaves an imprint with his sincere portraytal of a social activist.

THE MINUS POINTS:
The story by itself is far more palatable than the elaborate political schemes surrounding the characters. Can you make a film on the Emergency without naming Indira Gandhi or for that matter Sanjay Gandhi by their names? Neil Nitin Mukesh has been just reduced to a caricature of the politician

THE VERDICT:
The film may not sail through at the box office though Madhur Bhandarkar proves that he does not need stars to package his content.
