Tejaswini Pandit pays homage to unsung heroes who bury bodies in crematorium
During corona pandemic period the dead bodies were unattended due to fear of contracting disease. But the persons who bury bodies in crematorium, never shunned away from their duties and buried plenty of unattended bodies who dies due to Covid. Everyone is afraid of becoming a corona if you come in contact with a corona patient during the corona period. Even if a person with corona dies, the risk is the same. In the early days, corona victims had to be taken directly to the cemetery for cremation without being handed over to their relatives. Actress Tejaswini Pandit, in her Photo illustration series, pays homage these very corona warriors who buried bodies. These Unsung heroes are offered salute by her.
Actress Tejaswini Pandit says, “Now PPE kits, masks, oximeters are available. But the death toll was higher in the early days of the Corona outbreak. Even relatives were not allowed to approach the dead. At that time, I saw the news that volunteers like Nagesh Waghmare had come forward to set fire to the Covid-deaths. I also read about Sunita Patil. I have great respect for such volunteers. We don’t benefit from it at all, in fact when we know that it can make us a corona-positive patient, when we read the vision of humanity shown by him. Our hearts were overwhelmed and we automatically saluted him. That is why it is a tribute on auspicious day of Ashtami during Navratri.”
Tejaswini Pandit further adds, “Burning the dead body is considered very important. It is said that the path to salvation begins from here. But relatives who shed tears for the deceased during the Corona period could not support him. They couldn’t even give the last message to someone close. This is a mind boggling event and in such a case some volunteers, or staff working in the cemetery, perform these ‘divine’ deeds without expecting any favours. This is certainly a matter of appreciation.”
