Simran

Producer-Director: Harshal Mehta
Star Cast: Kangana Ranaut, Sohum
Genre: Social
Rating: **

Repetitive!
The film is based on the woman who was known as America’s Bombshell Bandit, a young, glamorous Punjabi Sikh nurse called Sandeep Kaur who robbed a string of banks over a five-week period in the summer of 2014, before being arrested by the police following a high-speed highway car chase.

PLUS POINT
Kangana Ranaut is excellent as the 30-year-old divorcee of Gujarati origin who is working in the housekeeping services department of an Atlanta hotel and lives with her conservative middle-class parents, a grouchy father who runs a small business and her mother who is a housewife. She is the life of the film whiuch seems a lot to have also been inspired by her own role in Queen.

MINUS POINT
The trouble is that the plot soon gets into a loop, and her slide into another avatar- the gambler and thief and it becomes illogical when the novelty of the character wears off. The weak screenplay and convoluted second half makes you wonder if Hansal Mehta was napping.

VERDICT
Everything else about the film is improbable. The writing falters in parts and though you are taken in by Kangana Ranaut in her different avatar, you wonder whether Kangana and Hansal Mehta had tampered with the original script by Apoorva Asrani in the first place.
