‘Feed Or Bleed India’ : An autobiography of a beggar woman

In many strata of our society beggars do not find a place. In fact they too are human and are not into begging by choice. The ruling authorities and society on the whole are responsible for their plight. Unfortunately no one seems to bother about these people but an actor, model, anchor Susheel Jangira has become a torch bearer for beggar women and has made a short film ‘Feed Or Bleed India’ highlighting the personal hygiene issues of these down trodden women. ‘Given a choice between food and sanitary napkin, almost all the begger women opted for food and majority of them did not even know what sanitary napkin meant’ said Susheel while interacting exclusively with our correspondent Keerti Kadam.

Writing comes naturally to Ms Jangira as she has been writing poetry since childhood and finds writing more satisfying. From modelling to acting to anchoring to writing and now direction, Susheel Jhangira has come from long way. Earlier she had directed a short film “Meri Rockstarwali Jeans” and now she has made a documentary film titled “Feed Or Bleed India” and it’s on menstrual problems of beggar women. As poverty and menstruation are universal subjects so this is released with subtitles to make it reach to maximum people throughout the world. A subject no one had covered till date. There have been quite a few documentaries, short films and even film like Akshay Kumar starrer PadMan, which touched the subject of menstruation but no one has dealt the subject with beggar woman as a central subject.

Susheel Jangira has been making content driven short films and given a choice can explore the feature film arena too. She already has made a feature film named “Nange Pav” which is about female athelete and she herself has played the role and directed it too. She doesn’t believe in romanticising poverty but through her art wants to spread awareness of beggar women’s hygiene issues. With all her creations Susheel has proved that she thinks and operates differently.

She started making Feed Or Bleed India in 2019 but 2020 was under lockdown, hence the delay in releasing her film. She has painstakingly travelled  interiors of India to complete her film and have spent time with the beggar women to know their inner being. Ms Susheel is associated with a NGO from Punjab, Savera Teust, and is working towards betterment in conditions in beggar women’s

hygiene conditions.

Feed Or Bleed India has won laurels at about 15 film festivals, including Jaipur ans Shimla and has won awards too. It’s been released by Shemaroo and is now on YouTube.
