The Plot
Vikram is a film maker and is in search of a subject. He travels to the place of his childhood friend to whom he has not met for last twenty years. During his journey he remembers his childhood memories which revolves around a video parlour based in his hometown. He grew up with the parlour and had a lasting memory of joy and sorrow with the parlour owner and his daughter. His memories of success and failure, love and insult and his understanding of his friend’s amazing life gets him closer to the subject.
Says Prasad Namjoshi, “I come from a small town of central India where everybody did not have a luxury called television and video cassette player. In absence of a movie theatre, video parlours were the only source of entertainment. I grew up watching my friends going to video parlours, bringing VCRs and VHSs on rent and having fun. I always wanted to portray that time in my film”.
Prasad Namjoshi continues. “My film Video Parlour is a story of two friends. Their friendship grows in early schooldays and around a Video Parlour. As they move on in life, their paths differ. One becomes a filmmaker portraying relishing and materialistic life through his films and the other believes in relinquishing life in search of ‘Who am I?’ The filmmaker friend is curious and is in search of the story of his friend ‘from relishing to relinquishing’.This search opens up many facets of their friendship, relationship and the nostalgic era of video parlour. The journey that starts at a video parlour ends at video parlour and the circle of life is completed. This film is very close to my heart and I am sure the audience will appreciate it.
