Congrats on bagging the Fox’s show ‘The Resident’! How did this come along?
Last year my sister Anuja was cast as Dr. Leela Devi on The Resident. When season 5 was announced, she was upped to a series regular and the storyline of her character grew tremendously. The creators of the show found out I’m her twin and an actor as well. Upon hearing the news the producers and studio planned a way to introduce me to the cast and shake things up for Anuja’s character in the show. We play such polar opposites, but we also strengthen one another. The relationship that’s been created on the page is so wonderful, and I am so grateful that this role was specifically written for me on such a popular and successful show!
How was it working on the sets with your sister Anuja?
Anuja Joshi is a phenomenally talented actress. Watching her on screen inspires me so much, but it’s even more phenomenal to act with her. She has found the footing of her character so strongly and it is amazing to be able to bounce off of confidence. We share our ideas and give each other advice while still respecting each other’s space and specific process. I prefer rehearsing and she prefers zoning out with her headphones in before the camera rolls. It’s been fun to experience each other’s company as co stars, and I am so excited for what’s to come.
The insider outsider debate is never ending, are you happy with your journey so far?
I try not to spend too much time dwelling on this debate in all honesty. While there are inherent biases and privileges that we cannot ignore, there are also a lot of scripts being made. There are more opportunities for actors now than ever before. I am happy with the choices I’ve made and what I’ve managed to achieve. I believe that hard work, perseverance and a commitment to growth is the ultimate key to success.
Would you do a dance number in a Hindi film?
I’d love to, this is one of my dreams!!! I am so interested in dancing for a Hindi film and I would be overjoyed at the opportunity to do so. I am passionate about dance and all things Bollywood, masala and dhamaka. I definitely believe I am destined to do at least one in my career.
Which Bollywood actor do you aspire to star opposite?
All of them! Our leading men today have such unique qualities and strengths, it would be a joy to share a screen with any one of them. However, if I’m being boldly honest, I would love to work with Varun Dhawan in a fun Bollywood masala comedy. That would be a true dream come true!
Describe 2021 in one line….
Hard work and patience pays off.
How do you manage your fitness and hectic work schedule?
It’s definitely a challenge to keep up with a regular workout routine, especially with the crazy shooting hours. I believe in a balanced approach. I try not to be too hard on myself if I can’t manage it every day. If I can squeeze in a small jog or yoga on a busy day even for 20 minutes, it’s better than nothing!
When do you plan to visit India?
I am going to be in India very soon, I am excited to delve into films and web series there again. The scripts that are coming out now are so wonderful and thought provoking!
