Recently a movie named ‘#AThursaday’ was released, headlined by #YamiGautam, wherein the protagonist demands a death penalty for rapists. Quite some time back #SujoyMukherjee, son of legendary actor #JoyMukherjee, dealt with the similar subject in a short film, #AbMujheUdnaaHai’ which was decorated with multiple awards, nationally as well internationally.
Directed by Sujoy Mukherjee Ab Mujhe Udnaa Hai has won 39 awards worldwide including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award in the short film category. In the penal laws of all countries, sexual offences against women occupy a significant place.
According to national crime records 86% of women don’t feel safe in cities.The film highlights the conventional mindset of society where an attempt to rape or molestation is often dealt with a lesser punishment than an actual rape.The movie sends out a strong message of change of mindset and to embrace the concept of Women Empowerment.
