Sohum Shah shares learning experience working with Kangana Ranaut
Hansal Mehta directorial Simran is a heist crime drama based loosely around a real-life story of Sandeep Kaur. The film starred Kangana Ranaut and Sohum Shah. Talking about working with Kangana Ranaut, actor and producer Sohum Shah said, “I really enjoyed working with Kangana and I got to learn a lot from her. She was very calm on the sets and was in control of herself. I got into meditation because of her and that’s when I realized that when you do meditation half of an actor’s problem is resolved already as it helps an actor to relax which gets half the job done. Secondly, she mixes her intuition and craft perfectly which is very important for an actor. So, these were the two things that I learnt from working with her”
Sohum Shah is very selective about his work, after making his debut in 2009 with Baabarr, he has acted and producer only handful of film, such as Ship of Theseus, Gulaab Gang, Talvar, Tumbbad and web-series Bard of Blood. So we asked Sohum whether he enjoy working in a good content driven film or total commercial pot-boiler. He said, “I like both of them. You get to learn, evolve, grow, and understand etc. from content driven films. For instance, I recently saw the films Super Deluxe, Won’t You Be My Neighbor, A Separation and these seem leave a lasting impression on you and help you to grow. On the other hand, commercial films are good for passing time like Hera Pheri, Andaz Apna Apna, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron etc. So it’s a mix of both and I love both of them equally. It’s like eating palak is good but you just can’t stop eating potatoes”
Meanwhile on the work front, Sohum Shah’s next outing is Baatuni, which is helmed by Adesh Prasad, the co-director and writer of Tumbbad. It is a comedy-drama.
