Aayush Sharma pays an ode to grandfather and former telecom minister Pandit Sukh Ram Sharma, expresses grief over his loss!

Grieving the loss of his beloved grandfather, #AayushSharma penned a heartfelt note to the late former telecom minister and ex-union minister #PanditSukhRamSharma.

Bringing about the telecom revolution in India by making the first call over a cellular phone in the country, Pandit Sukh Ram Sharma has been one of the most respected politicians not only in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh but the entire nation.

As the veteran leader passed away on Wednesday, 11th May, Aayush Sharma along with his wife Arpita Khan Sharma paid their last respects to his grandfather at the state funeral in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.

Pouring his grief, Aayush Sharma expressed his love for his grandfather in a heartwarming note with a series of pictures saying, “Wherever you are Dada, l’m sure you’re smiling. You got the farewell for which you have worked all your life. To leave this world wrapped in the Indian Tricolor. It’s a big void in
our lives which can never be filled. Every Indian has a phone in their hands thanks to your revolution, but unfortunately my phone will no longer ring saying, “DADA calling”.

Pandit Sukh Ram, who was a powerful union minister holding the communications portfolio in the Narasimha Rao government at the Centre, was airlifted from Mandi to Delhi.

During his tenure, on July 31, 1995, India marked a historic milestone by making the first ever mobile phone call – between erstwhile Union Telecom Minister, Sukh Ram, and Chief Minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu. The call was made on Nokia phones, allegedly the Nokia rinGo, on the first mobile telecom network, Modi Telstra.

Pandit Sukh Ram Sharma was admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi, post suffering a brain stroke. The 95 year old politician’s health started deteriorating on Friday afternoon, after which the family decided to airlift him to Delhi on Saturday, while he took his last breaths on Wednesday.
