A biopic on Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj, “Shahu Chhatrapati”!

In recent times, historical films are being produced on a large scale in the #Marathifilmindustry and even the audience seems to appreciate it wholeheartedly. At the same time, a grand Marathi film based on the life and work of #RajarshiShahuMaharaj, a king who has a place of honour and pride in the history of Maharashtra and the country, has been announced. The name of the film is … ‘#ShahuChhatrapati’.

During the British rule, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, fought for justice for the ryots and for the upliftment of the Bahujan Samaj, he played an important role in the upliftment of the Dalit and backward classes despite the opposition of the Sanatanis. It is commendable that an effort is being made through a movie to bring his life’s work to the people.

The story of the film ‘Shahu Chhatrapati’ presented by Dr. Jitendra Awhad, is based on decades of research by Dr. Jaysingrao Pawar, the film will be directed by young director Varun Sukhraj. This magnificent film is being produced by Vidroh Films.

This year is the Commemorative centenary year of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj. During his career, Rajarshi Shahu took and implemented many decisions for the welfare of the people, decisions which were much ahead of those times. Rajarshi Shahu did a lot for the farmers, traders, students, women and dalits and other such strata of society. Leading social reformers like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil, Prabodhankar Thackeray were fully supported by Rajarshi Shahu. The glorious history of Rajarshi Shahu will soon be seen on the big screen through this magnificent biography. What is special is that this film will be seen in other languages besides Marathi. This is a story that takes place in a period different from other biographies and will give the audience a chance to see the Maharashtra of Shahu Maharaj’s time on the big screen.
