Why The Centre Government Has Not Bars Private Schools And Colleges From Collecting Fee From Students During The Lockdown

Mumbai: The Thakur College of Mumbai has issued Demand Notice to all its students for paying their fees from May 4th to 14th, when the entire nation is fighting for pandemic disease. The State Government act as the Tamil Nadu Government did in past.

The Tamil Nadu State Government has directed all the private schools and colleges in the state to refrain from compelling the students and parents to pay the term fee for the 2020-21 academic year amid the COVID-19 lockdown. According to reports, the private educational institutions in the state have been ordered not to impose a penalty on the students whose academic term fee is pending.

In an official notification released by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department of Tamil Nadu, the directive was given to all the educational institutions of the state. The official notification stated that after careful consideration the government has directed all the private schools and colleges in the state to refrain from compelling students and parents to pay the fee for the next academic year or pay the pending fee for the 2019-20 academic year or impose a penalty on those who have delayed the payment of the fee during the lockdown period under the Disaster Management Act 2005.

This order has surfaced after the private institutions in the state have been sending messages to the parents to pay the fee for the next academic year which in turn lead to a huge outrage among the parents.

The Tamil Nadu State Government has also decided to conduct the semester examinations at the beginning of the next academic year without giving the students any breaks. The examinations will be conducted in the institutions reopen after the lockdown which is expected to be by June.

The extended lockdown will end on May 3, 2020 following which a review of the situation will be done by the government with regard to the active COVID-19 cases in the country and the possibility of an extended lockdown.
