Contestants of Sony TV’s India’s Laughter Champion thank their life’s ‘Comedy Ke Sarpanch’!
Teachers or ‘Gurus’ have a very important part to play in our lives, moulding us to be better learners. ‘Guru Purnima’, is the pious day when we remember our teachers and the wisdom that they imparted to us, their blessings in guise. Sony Entertainment Television’s ‘India’s Laughter Champion’, the platform that celebrates comedy in all its forms will be marking the eventful occasion of ‘Guru Purnima’ and who better to do this than the contestants?
Nitesh Shetty from Mumbai, Maharashtra spoke about Johnny Lever and how he inspired him to become a stand-up comedian, “Johnny Lever sir has played a huge role in me taking up the mic and pursuing my dreams of being a stand-up comedian. I have grown up watching his films and I have learnt so much about comedy from him. His impeccable comic timing, comic sense, humour, expressions, and body language have all become lessons to me and truly this ‘Guru Purnima’, I would like to thank him for inspiring many children like me to take up comedy and pursue their dreams.”
Talking up the popular comedian Raju Shrivastav, Aditya Kulshreshtha from Bhopal, MP said, “I remember we used to watch the old comedy shows that used to come on television and I distinctly remember watching Raju Shrivastav perform stand up. His performances are still imprinted in my mind and in fact when I remember him today, I cannot help myself but remember his amazing performances and giggle. He was the one who not only inspired me to take up the role of a stand-up comedian but also helped me realize that there is much scope in the Indian comedy scene. In a way, he was my guiding light into the world of comedy in India and since those days of watching him perform on my small tv screen in the family room, there has been no turning back for me. I learn I adapt; I perform and most importantly I don’t back down. This Guru Purnima, I would like to thank Raju Shrivastav sir for being my unbeknownst guiding light and teacher!”
Jaswant Singh Rathore from Ludhiana, Punjab, spoke about Gurpreet Ghuggi, who has appeared on the show ‘Comedy Ke Sarpanch’ twice, to be his first source of inspiration, “Today people laugh at my impressions of Gurpreet ji but what they do not know is that he was my hook that pulled me into comedy. I have watched him perform stand-up, perhaps one of the first Punjabis to go into this line of work. He is not only an inspiration to me but Punjab’s pride. A lot of my comedic sense has been learnt from him, watching and observing his performances. He truly is my Guru.”
Jay Chhaniyara of Rajkot, Gujarat spoke about how all artists are his teacher, “On this pious occasion of Guru Purnima, I pray that everyone worships and remembers their Gurus. Our ancient texts revere Gurus and hence say, “गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥” There’s not one particular person who’s been a Guru but all comedy artists are my Guru as I learn from them every time they perform and I pray in the future as well I keep on learning.”
