Action designer and actor Karan Khanna enters ‘Nath Zewar Ya Zanjeer’!

#KaranKhanna has been designing action for various projects under the guidance of his father, Pappu Khanna s/o Ravi Khanna who too was a noted action director for more than 400 films. Apart from this he loves acting and has been active on television for the last 6-7 years. Karan Khanna who was seen in serials, viz. Amma Ke Babu Ki Baby, Ishqbaaz, Divya Drishti will be seen as Adhiraaj in Dangal TV’s running show, Nath- Zewar Ya Zanjeer. He shares, “I play Adhiraj, who is a doctor. It’s a grey character, who feels that his actions are justified.”

In Shunya Square’s ‘Amma Ke Babu Ki Baby’ Karan played lead and this time around he was offered a grey shade role which he readily accepted. ‘I want to play variety of roles and that enriches me as an actor. Also my father wants me to pursue acting as a career. He doesn’t want me to be in action direction. Importantly both my parents are happy to watch me on screen. I did a film ‘Biwi.com’ some time back. It’s a fun movie but could not be a commercial success. The story is similar to Kapil Sharma’s ‘Kis Kis Ko Pyar Karoon’ and had quite a few comic elements. In fact during lockdown I did watch it again and found that it’s not that bad. I love doing television and consider it as my bread and butter. I am open to web series too and will have no qualms doing a strong character in it.’

The actor is mostly remembered for his mean avatar in TV shows. Does he enjoy it more? “Honestly, I don’t worry about the shade of my character. Starting se mujhe jo milte gaya main leta gaya. Work is work. I call Ishqbaaaz my biggest break, in which I played a negative character and in Amma Ke Babu Ki Baby I played the positive lead. Look, it depends on what the audience likes to see us as and how we portray it. The challenge is to perform a character to the best of your ability, be it grey or positive and the rest is in the hands of the audience,” he replies.

Talking about the overnight decision to pull his previous show off air owing to the second wave of the pandemic, Karan says that it took him a while to understand the seriousness of the situation. He adds, “We were all set to get back to the shoot after a 15-day gap but then it was suddenly decided that the show was wrapping up. People associated with the show cried over the decision and understandably so, as everyone had got that opportunity after the lockdown. Somehow I was fine and positive. However, it hit me a month later. It wasn’t about the money or the visibility. It was about shooting for 15 hours a day and then suddenly sitting at home without work. In today’s scenario, it’s a huge deal to get a show. The process involves a lot of struggle. While at home, I became anxious and it took a toll on my health as well. But I am glad that I am back on the set.”

Arjit Taneja, Pratima Kanan, Ravi Gosai, Piomri Mehta, Anurag Sharma, Anjana Singh, Anchal Tankwal, Radhika Chhabra, Chahat Pandey and Vaibhavi Kapoor are the main cast in the serial along with Karan Kapoor. Nath Zewar or Zanjeer airs on Dangal TV every Monday to Saturday at 8 PM.
