Ali Fazal joins in an initiative to address domestic violence
Amidst the lockdown and the rampant rate of growing frustration amongst people, the one issue that’s imperative to address is domestic violence. According to reports, there’s been a sharp ascent in the number of cases and many of them are going unreported. In light of this, Ali Fazal has pledged his support for the cause as he joined hands with actor-filmmaker Nandita Das in her short Listen To Her, which empathetically addresses the situation. The film also has voices from Amruta Subhash and Swanand Kirkire.
The film conceived and shot in the lockdown as a response to growing cases of domestic violence, the film identifies multiple forms of abuse. Even as the slogan stay home, stay safe gathers steam, it’s a harsh reality that many across the globe aren’t feeling the safest within their homes.
Ali, who has consistently batted for the subject on his social media platforms, joined forces with Das on the cause. Ali says, “Domestic violence is agnostic to class, religion and other such societal barriers. This was an important message for people to come forward and de-stigmatise the issue. For a systematic shift to happen, we need to support the survivors of domestic violence to speak up and create a safe environment for them. “
