Anu Menon is on top of the world as Shakuntala Devi is hugely appreciated
Shakuntala Devi – or the ‘Human Computer, as she was called – was not only a world-renowned math genius, but also a woman ahead of her times. She lived life on her own terms, and did so unapologetically. All her achievements in professional life as well as her flaws as a human being are sketched very well by director Anu Menon. Vidhya Balan’s scintillating performance as Shakuntala Devi is a treat to watch. The moment it started streaming on OTT platform, congratulations and praise started pouring in. Director opines that her film is not just about Shakuntala Devi, the math wizard, it is also about Shakuntala – the woman and mother, with all her brilliance, vulnerabilities and flaws.
Overwhelmed Menon says, “I am thrilled and overwhelmed with the love that Shakuntala Devi is receiving from consumers every day. What makes this appreciation even more special – is that we made a ‘mainstream’ film on Maths, motherhood and a gloriously flawed but unapologetic female protagonist, all subjects that aren’t often addressed in commercial Indian films. We have had families that have watched the movie together – loved it, had discussions after and gone to find out more about the one only Human Computer!”
