Anusha Mishra on online addiction, “Every addiction needs to be controlled in a certain manner”!

#YouTube has created opportunities for all. Many have turned vloggers and are earning quite well from the platform. However, the addiction of the platform is also real and it does have a bad effect on our physical and mental health. #Actor #AnushaMishra, who made her TV debut with #TeraKyaHogaAlia and started her #Bollywood career with #DreamGirl2, opines on the same.

“It does get difficult because you get both entertainment and the opportunity to learn something new, so you want to keep watching. But it’s also fun if you have the time. And if you don’t have the time, and you’re still doing it, that just means you’re procrastinating, which I do a lot. Every addiction needs to be controlled in a certain manner. It needs to be limited slowly, and I think that’s what I do, and I’m doing pretty well. So, how do I limit my time viewing on YouTube? I tell myself that with YouTube’s premium version, you can still play it in the background while you do other things. I also listen to a lot of podcasts. There’s this murder and mystery podcast by Bailey Sarian that I love listening to while I’m doing chores, or if I’m writing something, then I’ll be listening to it. So it’s not always just viewing,” she says.

About the kind of content she likes to watch, Anusha shares, “The kind of content I like are the Graham Norton Show. It’s one of my favourite shows as well. It’s a talk show where celebrities show up, as you can tell. I love watching celebrity interviews, but I also love watching Lilly Singh. Hot Ones’ is another show that I like watching where celebrities eat really spicy chicken wings and answer questions. Music is mostly what I listen to, or I’m usually learning to cook something new. I like learning Hangul (Korean), I do it through one or two channels.”

YouTube is accessible on mobile phones in a second so that makes it all the more accessible to watch from anywhere.

“You have to consciously make an effort, even if you’re on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, or any other social media application, because it can take you away from reality. It helps because reality is sometimes quite difficult to digest and live with. But the moment you shift and find an outlet where you can immerse yourself in something interesting, it becomes hard to stop, much like with books. Books transport you to a fictitious world, and you get absorbed in it until you finish the book. YouTube or any social media platform works the same way for me. I have to consciously remind myself to come back to reality and handle the tasks I need to do,” she ends.
