Ashish Shrivastav opines, ‘About 70 percent of TV viewers are femal e so that’s why more powerful women-oriented shows are being made’!
#AshishShrivastav says that much like in real life that is filled with ups and downs, stories of different fictions on TV also don’t go smoothly. The director explains his point of view and shares a few experiences of making TV shows for so many years.
“TV shows are an extension of your real life… There are new issues, sometimes good, sometimes bad and we have to deal with all of them. The way human takes decision in life according to their call, similarly in TV shows too characters take decisions and what happens next helps in taking the story forward,” says the director of shows such as Shaadi Mubarak, Yeh Rishte Hai Pyar Ke, Piya Albela and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki.
Talking about the love a character gets, Ashish adds that no one portrays a character next to God, it is the audiences’ love for the character that makes it larger than life.
Ask him about female characters dominating TV and he says, “About 70 percent of TV viewers are female so that’s why more powerful women-oriented shows are being made, and it’s a fact. Audiences are now appreciating male characters too, so now importance is given to them as well and prominent roles are being written for them.”
Ashish feels earlier it was like women rule the TV screens while men dominate the silver screen, but things have changed. “Now everything depends on the content. Women are also portraying prominent roles in films and even they are the ruling silver screen. Think of actors like Taapsee Pannu, Vidya Balan and more. Content is the king and yes to portray a good character one should be a good actor in both the platforms whether it’s TV or films,” he explains.
