Corporation seeks grant for Marathi films on OTT platform
Covid 19 pandemic has changed many things for entertainment industry. As the corona inflicted lockdown began in March 2020 a lot changed for entertainment industry. The theatres are also closed since then with no idea when they’ll reopen again. No cinema hall has been opened for the last four months and it is not possible to say when they will be reopened. This has caused huge losses to Marathi film producers. The producers who have released their films on the OTT platform, had no other choice as the commence of film making was involved. The purpose is to recover the money invested and to pay off the debts. For Marathi, full payment for the film is not available on the OTT platform. Producers are left in lurches to bear huge losses.
The Government of Maharashtra’s grant scheme is very useful for such producers. The producers who have released their films on OTT can no longer release in cinemas halls. Because It will be difficult to get audience for the same films released in theatres. As per the GR of the Government of Maharashtra, only films released in cinemas (for 10 weeks) will be eligible for the grant. Meghraj Rajebhosle, president of the Akhil Bhartiy Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal (All India Marathi Film Corporation) has requested the state’s cultural minister Amit Deshmukh in a statement that the films released on the OTT platform should be included in the grant scheme. So that the makers of the marathi film can survive and they can make more films, thus helping the film industry.
