Fatehshikst is an invigorating watch : Mrunmayee Deshpande
Mrunmayee Deshpande is one of most talented actresses, Marathi entertainment industry can boast of. Apart from being an actress, she is a good singer, fabulous dancer, spontaneous and witty anchor and in recent times she has donned a hat of a director, and, not to forget writing scripts. This multi-faceted persona has regaled audiences with variety of roles, one of them being, Kesar from historical Farzand and Fatehshikst. She has won the hearts of the audience with her acting skills in these movies too. She shines despite the length of the role. That’s the sign of a talented artist. Fatehshikst, where Mrunmayee plays important character, is having a World Television Premiere on Zee Talkies on 16th August, ‘20. On this occasion she spoke to Cine Buster. Excerpts….
What was your reaction when the role of Kesar was offered to you, initially ?
When the role was narrated to me I immediately fell in love with it. After the success of Farzand, I got to know that writer, director Digpal Lanjekar is making Fatehshikst and I was confident that he’ll definitely offer me the role. He did mention that this film will be little different and my curiosity about the role increased. It was extremely gratifying to see that Fatehshikst too was a super hit.
What kind of preparations you underwent ?
The character I played of Kesar In Fatehshikst was a tad different from Kesar from Farzand. She could not err as a lot of lives were dependent on her actions. Bahirji Naik, who was a sleuth for Shivaji Maharaj, inducted her in his team. In fact Kesar’s preparations were ongoing since the first part, that’s why it was not that difficult for me to reprise it. The moment I read the script I knew what is expected from Kesar’s character.
Any unforgettable moments during the shoot ?
I can say that one particular scene was unforgettable. I vividly remember that when in a scene Kesar is about to get caught and in the massive kitchen Naamdar Khan catches me by throat, I was expected to emote in a different way, which I did. It was taxing but it’s still in front of my eyes. Importantly we shot this scene in one take and that gave me immense satisfaction. It’s my favourite scene and Digpal’s too.
The biggest compliment you received after the movie‘s release !
Though all characters were liked by the audiences, many said about Kesar and Bahirji Naik’s scenes standing out. When your work is appreciated, obviously, any actor would love it. There were many warm celebratory messages on social media too. That gave me the satisfaction that I did justice to the character of Kesar.
The film was a box office hit and it’s having a world television premiere. What’s your appeal to the audience?
Zee Talkies has reached to the remotest of places in the state. Again it’s known for telecasting quality cinema. Fatehshikst definitely falls into that category. To know and experience the prowess and heroics of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and his lieutenants with their Mavlas, do watch this movie. Our movie is good for a repeat-watch and who inadvertently couldn’t watch it in theatres can watch it now. To have invigorating experience watch Fatehshikst on Zee Talkies.
