Fitness freak Rohit Choudhary doesn’t think that operating Gym is a profitable business
Actor-producer Rohit Choudhary, who made his Marathi debut with “Aamdar Nivas”, is a fitness enthusiast. In fact, he even owns a few gyms and health clubs. He shared that though it was he wanted to open around 50 health clubs in Delhi NCR region, and have a franchise of his own, he is now planning to close his operational gyms.
“When I opened my first gym it was my dream to have around 50 health clubs in the Delhi NCR area, and start my franchise. As of now, I have five operational gyms, earlier it was close to 12. But I don’t think it is a profitable business. Only if you have your own space, then you can make at least some profit out of it, otherwise, on rental spaces, there is hardly any profit. Now I intend to close my other gyms too, and keep just one functional because that’s on my property and it is doing quite well,” he said.
And how did start his first gym? “I have been a fitness enthusiast since forever, but it was not my motive to open a gym of my own. But as luck would have it, the gym where I used to go, the trainer there used to help me a lot in training. So a few customers complained about him for this and he was fired. He came to me and told me the entire incident. I asked him what all things need to be done for a gym, and since I had an unused space with me, I opened a gym and made him the manager there,” he revealed.
During the nationwide lockdown, gyms were closed and Rohit confessed that it was a very tough time for all those who were running gyms on rental space. He added, “The owners were not making any profit, and even their employees were not getting paid. Since my gyms are on my property, I had some relief and I was able to pay all my employees during that time.”
“Even now, a lot of people are scared of going to the gyms, only those who are fitness freaks are coming regularly. Moreover, it’s a business and you will see profit and loss both, but as for me, I was not under a major loss since I did not have to pay any rent,” he concluded.
