As 2020 was one of the most difficult years due to the Covid-19 pandemic in the country, some ‘reel life’ heroes stepped in and became ‘real life’ heroes. Not only did these stars utilised their aura and stardom during this effort, they also used their resources.
Sonu Sood- The actor became the messiah for thousands of migrant workers by arranging transportation, housing and a helpline number to return safely to his hometown. Sonu Sood opened the doors of his Juhu hotel to housing medical staff and also served regular meals to the underprivileged in Mumbai. The actor also opened up lines of communication between him and the public on Twitter, so that he could know their issues.
Hrithik Roshan- Apart from donating a large amounts to the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Relief Fund, Hrithik Roshan continues to support and help Covid-19 front liners including police officers and BMC activists in providing essential security supplies. The star gave a motivational message for Batch of 2020 on her social media to lift the spirits. Apart from all this, he was also using social media platforms to bring awareness about the dangers of traveling on a train. Hrithik Roshan was one of the first to provide financial assistance to Paparazzi and even donated to CINTAA. In order to realise the dreams, he sponsored an ambitious but disadvantaged ballet dancer and even donated money in support of more than 100 dancers who had no work.
Akshay Kumar – Star was actively spreading awareness about preventive and precautionary lockdown rules to prevent the spread of Covid-19. To support frontline workers and daily bets, the actor contributed to a number of funds including the PM-Keys Fund, Mumbai Police Foundation, BMC and CINTAA. Akshay also attended Bollywood’s biggest fundraising event to raise money for those affected by the epidemic.
Salman Khan- Salman Khan gave financial assistance to 25,000 daily workers of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), who were members of the All India Special Artists Association (AISAA) and also helped many spot boys. Through ‘Being Human’, he started food trucks, ‘Being Hungry’, to deliver food to the villagers. Talking about Being Human, he also did a lot of social work for villages and small towns, provided food and other essentials to 2500 families and encouraged people to participate in “Ann ppp Daan”.
Prabhas – Known for being a part of Magnum Opus Bahubali, Prabhas’s contribution has been equally important. He donated an additional Rs 50 lakhs to Andhra Pradesh’s CM Relief Fund and Telangana’s CM Relief Fund and Corona Crisis Charity (CCC), which was set up to help Telugu cinema’s daily salaries and film workers. Pan-India superstars also donated 3 crores to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. Prabhas also adopted 1650 acres of forest land in Telangana for the eco-park with a development fund of 2 crore, to be named after his late father Uppalapati Surya Narayana Raju.
