Ghazal Mastreo Pankaj Udhas No More!

#PankajUdhas who was instrumental in making #Ghazal popular with common people breathed his last on Monday 26th February 2024. He was 72. He was struggling with multiple ailments for quite some time and was admitted to #BreachCandyHospital. He left for heavenly abode and his daughter #Nayab posted on social media about his death which read, “With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the sad demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness”.

Pankaj Udhas was born on 17th May 1951 in a musical family. His brothers Nirmal and Manhar were also singers and Pankaj after completing studies moved to singing. Initially he was interested in Tabla but later he was trained in classical singing. He debuted Bollywood singing with a movie, Kamna, but he tasted huge success with his ghazal ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai….’ from ‘Naam’. He shifted his focus to Ghazal singing and released 50+ albums including Aahat, Nasha, Ghunghat, Aashiyana etc.

Pankaj Udhas was awarded Padmashri in 2006. His last rites will be held on Tuesday 27th February. He is survived by wife Farida, daughters Nayab and Reva Udhas.
