Hasan Zaidi says that his love for music comes from his parents!
Music has a huge significance in #HasanZaidi’s life. His love for music comes from his parents. He remembers how during his childhood they would make him listen to #DaddyCool by #BoneyM.
“My father used to listen to Boney M a lot and I just used to request that song all the time. That is when he used to make me sit on his lap and make me drive a little bit when we were reaching home, while the song played in the car. Both my parents are music lovers. My mother is also high on music. Kids used to come to our house and we had these singing reality shows, her favourite is Indian Idol,” the actor shares.
He continues, “If you ask me, I like all sorts of music now. I’m seldom without music. I listen to hard rock, heavy metal, pop, Bollywood. The Score, Hans Zimmer, Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, I love all of them. They had a huge influence on me when I was growing up. Then there is Rafi Saab, Kishore Kumar Saab and Lata Mangeshkar ji, Asha Bhonsle ji, Suraiya Begum… Nushrat Saab and a lot of big Qawwals like The Sabri Brothers, are my favourites too. I have a huge collection of music in my house. Music changes my mood, while driving, working out or when I’m cooking, I’m always listening to music.”
Hasan shares growing up with Metallica, “I am also fond of Guns and Roses, Bon Jovi. Since I am married to an Austrian, I had the good fortune to go to Mozart’s house and Beethoven’s house. I have been to a museum of music in Vienna. I also listen to Italian composer Antonio Vivaldi, and often visit French and Spanish cafés for music. I loved tuning into the Pakistan Coke studio.”
The actor says that he can’t just pick up one song as his favourite but names a bunch of them like Chasing cars, Musafir Hoon Yaaro, Yeh Raat Yeh Chandni Phir Kaha, The Aart company, Suzannah, By the Way, the Godfather album etc.
Not many know that Hasan can play the guitar, though is not a trained musician. “My cousin used to play it and I started playing with him, over the years I picked up a few things slowly.I like singing songs and have composed a few songs too. I can also synthesize and play drums. I want to learn to play piano sometime soon. That’s a dream,” says the actor, who participated in various functions and cultural activities in school and college.
There was a time when music was only available on gramophone records, audio cassettes and CDs. But now, thanks to all the technological advancement, all kinds of music are just a click away. “I feel that the novelty of records and the whole collection of audio cassettes and the CDs later are really hard to achieve during the times of the internet. I come from that generation where we used to have top of the pop, billboards charts and we have all these cassettes with us. In fact, I always had a walkman… But that life is different now. I guess change is the only constant. The good thing is that music now is very accessible and easily available,” he adds.
