HHI’s Ashmit and Steve’s journey has been very difficult from the streets of Shillong to Mumbai!
#AmazonminiTV – #Amazon’s free video streaming service, dance reality show – #HipHopIndia marked the closure of its phenomenal grand finale with a bang finish. The show was judged by dance gurus #RemoDSouza and #NoraFatehi and captured the essence of underground Hip Hop culture with the spectacular performances by the contestants, who were cherry-picked from across the gullies of India. Among them, Steve and Ashmit stunned the judges with their terrific performances and served as an example for aspiring street dancers by earning the title of Top 6 Semifinalists.
During a heart-to-heart, the duo commented on what sets them apart from the other contenders, throwing light on how Hip Hop India changed their lives. Steve shared, “We are proud to have our roots in Shillong, and our journey to Mumbai to showcase our talents on such a grand stage is a testament to our hard work, as it took us six to seven years to reach our dream destination. We have tried our luck before in multiple reality shows, but nothing worked out as well for us as it did with Hip Hop India. This show is extremely important for us and the stage will always be close to our hearts.”
Ashmit highlighted their journey of spreading the Hip Hop revolution from Shillong to Mumbai by saying, “Our journey has been very difficult from the streets of Shillong to the glory of Mumbai, and we are the first artist from Shillong to be in the top 6 on any reality show. Be it underground or commercial, we have got the first reality show and we are new faces, hence no one from Shillong has reached this far, so perhaps this is what differentiates us from everyone else.”
When asked about their journey on the show and about their learning and experience, Ashmit poured out his heart and shared, “We have learned a lot from the show, and from the new dancers. Our roommates were Divyam and Darshan, and we also learned a lot from them, The dance style we didn’t know about, we got knowledge about it. Everyone on the show was very understanding and supportive of our journey and that kept us going. We also discovered how an artist can motivate other artists without harboring any feelings of animosity. These people are very senior dancers, so we learned a lot from them, that we didn’t know about Hip Hop. We got to meet so many new and budding dancers, who are so amazing in what they do.”
Adding to this, Steve said, “This show has taught us many things, one of which is to never give up. There is no substitute for hard work, and this stage has taught us that if we keep working hard, we will get what we deserve and our hard work will pay off. It will be appreciated when the time is right.”
