Imtiaz Ali : Vijay Varma approaches acting from a pure intention
Popularly known for his work in critically acclaimed films like Monsoon Shootout, Pink and Gully Boy, actor Vijay Varma is currently gearing up for his upcoming Netflix series tiled ‘She’. Written and created by Imtiaz Ali, the series will feature Varma playing the role of Sasya, a narcotic dealer who embarks on complex relationship with Aaditi Pohankar’s character, of a timid female police constable.
The seven part crime thriller drama “She” marks Imtiaz Ali’s digital debut, bringing to viewers an unseen aspects of his personality. Opening up about the lead Vijay Varma, Imtiaz Ali shared how he is immensely impressed by the actor’s effortless performance. The writer and filmmaker said, “Vijay approaches acting from a pure intention. It’s very easy to collaborate with him. He has contributed a lot to the scenes. He’s technically not Sasya in real life but he has worked really well and that’s why it looks so real.”
He further added, “What Vijay has done is that he has contributed to the character since he had some advantages from being from those regions. He’s a pure actor and has pushed himself to be closer to the character of Sasya. Regardless of gender, when you do that in terms of your physicality, sexuality you need to take that journey and that was a very interesting journey for all of us, to go at that point, say it purely, without being ashamed of it.”
Co-directed by Arif Ali and Avinash Das, the first season of the series “She” will stream on Netflix March 20 onwards.
