‘Love Knows No Gender’ questions the orthodox notion of love!
Love Knows No Gender, a short film by Shipra and her brother Shivankar Arora is clearly one of its kind. Unlike other LGBTQ films, the story isn’t replete with heavy emotions and uncalled for drama. Such subjects are known to evoke emotions among the audience but the way this film does this makes it clearly stand out. The script is crisp and brings home the point loud and clear.
The performances by Rini Das and Ankita Dubey, are beyond amazing. The honesty with which they have performed their roles needs to be appreciated. The two play a couple in love, torn due to societal norms of heterosexual marriage. The film subtly questions the age-old practice of shunning homosexuality right from its roots. ‘Why can’t a rajkumari get married to a rajkumari?’ – This is the question that the film unapologetically asks!
The struggle and trauma that a homosexual couple goes through, right from coming out of the closest to revealing their relationship to their loved ones, is so beautifully portrayed in the film.
Direction by Shivankar Arora is also worth a mention. Clean shots with a loud and clear message is what comes across instantly through this film. The storyline will engulf you in its simplicity, leaving you wondering why we live in such a world where love is made to live within the bars of societal norms.
