Maharashtra’s most controversial elections to emerge on screen through ‘ 36 Days’

While 2020 continues to prove itself as the most tumultuous year for many, in 2019, Maharashtra’s most controversial and unpredictable election took place. Mr. Kamlesh Sutar, the deputy editor of India Today group, has consolidated this thrilling account of the political strategies, moves, and the ultimate game of Chief Minister’s throne in his book “36 Days”. Bharatiya Digital Party, a digital Marathi content brand popularly known as BhaDiPa, has acquired the rights of the the book. Admittedly, this will be the most ambitious project for the trending Marathi YouTube channel.

‘After working closely with Marathi politicians during our Town Hall series #LokManch, we were fascinated with the drama behind elections. The 2019 Maharashtra Assembly elections turned out to be the most thrilling political drama that our generation has seen. There were no heroes, nor villains; nothing was in black and white. The grey shades and Kamlesh’s visual writing style made ’36 Days’ perfect to adapt for the screen. We want to tell this story as it happened. For us, it has the drama of Vijay Tendulkar’s ‘Sinhasan’ and unfolds like Netflix’s ‘House of Cards’: A perfect BhaDiPa blend.’ – Sarang Sathaye, Co-Founder and Creative Director, Bharatiya Digital Party (Gulbadan Talkies Pvt. Ltd.) said.

Their previously produced series ’Pandu’ and ‘Once a Year’- have both been well-received by audiences and critics alike. Nominated in 8 categories at the Critics Choice Awards, both the series are available on the streaming platform MX Player.

’36 Days is not about what happened but how it happened. The essence of 36 Days is not just the political drama but also strong underlying emotions. It’s indeed a great feeling that the book is now being considered for dramatization. And what is even more exciting is the fact that the talented team of BhaDiPa is doing it.’ Kamlesh Sutar, author of 36 Days’ confessed.

‘Kamlesh Sutar’s 36 Day published by Rupa Publications became a bestseller within days of its release. Its audio visual production will now bring Kamlesh’s exceptional storytelling to the audience in one more format. This is testimony to the fact that good content has great potential—all we need is to be dynamic in our approach and keep exploring.’ opined Kapish G. Mehra, Managing Director, Rupa Publications.
