‘Meri Baap ki awaz mein gaate ho’?

Life is full of surprises and popular Bollywood singer Sudesh Bhosle knows it well. He was a guest on Zee TV’s popular singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs and revealed a funny anecdote from the time he got his break in the Bollywood industry with the film, Zalzala. During the shoot, while each and every contestant put in their best to recreate the R.D Burman’s magic on stage, contestants Ranita and Aryananda actually happened to also remind Sudesh of his first encounter he had with the late composer. Right after their stunning performance to the song ‘O saath chal’ and ‘Kis mod se jaate hain’ songs, Sudesh ji went on to share a rather amusing story from when he first met R. D. Burman and how the latter left him speechless.

Reminiscing this moment with great pride Sudesh Bhosale said, “Asha Ji had once heard me sing in Sachin Da’s (S. D. Burman) voice at a studio. When she met me again in person she asked me to sing a song in front of her and I closed my eyes and sang Sachin da’s song ‘Dolimein Bitha ke’ from the movie Amar Prem. A couple of days later I got a call from PanchamDa’s manager on my neighbour’s telephone, asking me to reach the music studio by 10 am with my passport. When I reached the room, I saw many well-known artists present there along with Asha ji and Pancham Da.  As soon as Asha ji saw me, she pointed me out to Pancham Da saying ‘yes that’s the guy’. Much to my surprise Pancham Da in a very different tone said ‘Meri Baap ki Awaz mein gaate ho’ and all I could tell him was ‘no sir, I am just a fan’. What Ashaji had done was, after hearing me sing, she had a cassette recorded with my voice but without any music and she played this one day when Pancham Da had gone to take a shower. Pancham Da was so shocked and scared because he felt like he heard his father singing outside, when Sachin Da had actually expired years ago. ”(laughs).

Revealing further details that actually got the singer his first break, Sudhesh added, “Post that incident Pancham Da decided to take me along with him to Hong Kong in 1986 where I sang many songs in voices of different artists but it was only when I sang ‘ Tu he mere bandhure’ did Pancham da gave me a  hug and said that he would record his first song after we reach Mumbai with me.  I got my first break in Zalzala movie because of him!”

Applauding at this huge achievement, much later our judges also decided to tag along with the special guest and created an enchanting atmosphere while singing songs like Shava Shava, Chalao na Naino se baan re, Imli ka boota beri ka ber ….

With Sudesh Bhosale in the house, the upcoming episode of the show is all set to see the supremely talented Li’l Champs presenting some energetic performances to some of the most iconic songs. While Saksham and Saee’s performance to ‘Khullam Khulla pyaar karenge and Jai Jai Shiv Shankar’ song will win everyone’s hearts, Gurkirat and Somya will get the beats rolling with their ‘Ek main aur ek tu and Dekha na Haye re’ performance. All in all, the upcoming Kishore Kumar and R D Burman special episode of Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs will have a lot of melodies, and surprises for the viewers. So tune in to Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li’l Champs this Saturday and Sunday at 8 pm, on Zee TV.
