Mitu wants to create content around issues that need to be addressed!

Writer, producer and director #Mitu has been the force behind popular TV shows like #PavitraRishta, #BadeAchheLagteHain, #KahaaniGharGharKii, #SaatPhere, #Sarkar, #KasautiZindagiKay, #KahinKisiRoz, among others. You name it, she has probably done it. Looking back, Mitu had a wonderful journey and shares that working with producer Eta Kapoor has been “a great learning experience”.

“Ekta is the best guru anyone can ask for. Be it scripts or treatment of shows or knowing the pulse of her target audience, she knows everything at the back of her hand. She knows how to make the impossible possible, and never misses a commitment. The tagline of our company Positive Thinkerz, ‘Achieve the Impossible’ comes from that life lesson. The other thing we learned from her was having a passion for perfectionism,” she says.

Recently ‘Positive Thinkerz’ created films for two shows ‘Bade Acche Lagte Hain’ and ‘Pavitra Rishta’.

“Bade… and Pavitra… are two shows close to my heart. With both these shows completing iconic years, I felt it was like giving back to the shows the love they gave us. I called up the cast and crew and all of them were more than happy to do this. Many people know the shows but not what, how and why they were made. Each show has a different story. Stringing the entire journey together was an overwhelming experience,” she adds.

On challenges she faced as a producer-director and the shows she will be backing on her YouTube channel, Mitu says, “The challenge is to make content that stands out, be relevant in today’s time. It’s an uphill task to stay afloat amid the competition. As a YouTube channel, we’re experimenting with varied content. We also plan to have issue based celebrity anchored vines, we’ll also have frothy slice-of-life sketches that bring out “today” in a tongue in cheek manner. We also plan to keep making our docu-series of shows.”

OTT is seeing a surge in content and viewership. Mitu has done a few shows for Hotstar. “I’m always excited to do new stuff, so I’ll continue to make content for other platforms as well.” Over the years there is a change in approach and content. There are also conversations around GEC’s thinking out-of-the-box and experimenting with new ideas.

“Keeping the basics intact, there’s a need to push the envelope. There is a new genre called TV PLUS that has come into play which is challenging to tackle. Also the heroine has changed, which means the lens of seeing shows is changing. Originally heroines were the problem solvers today they are the problem: the overweight heroine, the stammering heroine, the crook heroine and to top it all, and my personal favourite: the Robot heroine,” she says.

Mitu wants to create content around issues that need to be addressed. “It can range from gender bias, sexual harassment, menopause to child abuse. Topics in lighter veins like commitment Issues, technology etc should also be spoken about,” she adds.

So where does she see herself and Positive Thinkerz in the next three years? “I see us making good meaningful content that finds resonance with the audience as an established successful entertainment hub. As a platform, we’ll nurture new talent. I know we will get there because we, as a company, operate on two principles, ‘Integrity and passion’,” she ends.
