Mumbai Police Allegedly Deceived by Telangana Police Using Expired Court Order
Mumbai: Law enforcement agencies play a crucial role in ensuring legal compliance and maintaining public trust. However, a recent incident involving personnel from the Telangana Police allegedly misleading Mumbai Police with an expired court order has sparked concerns over due process and abuse of authority.
On 7th January 2025, three individuals, dressed in plain clothes, entered the Santacruz office of Pearl Group of Companies. Claiming to be businessmen interested in interior designing services, they requested a meeting with the company’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Ronnie Rodrigues. Upon being informed by the receptionist that Mr. Rodrigues was unavailable and having no prior appointment, the individuals continued to insist on meeting him.
Escalation of Events
The situation intensified when the group summoned a uniformed constable from the Santacruz Police Station to the scene. The individuals then identified themselves as personnel from the Hyderabad Police and allegedly forced their way into the office. Despite repeated requests from staff to adhere to formal protocols, they reportedly continued their unauthorized activities.
Allegations of Misconduct
According to complaints, the following actions were taken without proper authorization:
The individuals allegedly snatched the receptionist’s phone, accessed its contents without her consent, and physically manhandled her.
Unauthorized videography of the office premises was conducted without permission.
A document was affixed to the office entrance, and photographs were taken without justification.
Legal Concerns
Key issues raised by the Pearl Group of Companies include:
1. Authorization: Lack of proper documentation allowing entry and searches by the Telangana Police.
2. Expired Court Order: Reports indicate reliance on a Telangana High Court order that had validity until 18th August 2023.
3. Inter-State Protocols: Failure by Mumbai Police to verify the validity of the order and ensure lawful conduct.
4. Impersonation: Initial claims by the personnel to be businessmen raise suspicions of misconduct.
5. Unauthorized Behavior: Allegations of intimidation, phone confiscation, and unauthorized surveillance.
Formal Complaint and Investigation
The Pearl Group has filed an official complaint with the Mumbai Police Commissioner, accompanied by CCTV footage of the incident. The company demands an investigation into the legality of the Telangana Police personnel’s actions, as well as the procedural lapses by local law enforcement.
This incident underscores the urgent need for stricter oversight, proper documentation verification, and accountability in inter-state police operations. The developments in this case are being closely watched by legal experts and concerned citizens alike.
