‘Original’ James Bond, Sir Sean Connery, dies at 90
‘The name’s Bond, James Bond’ must be the most popular and successful introduction line, delivered by actor Sean Connery is still in the minds of innumerable ‘Bond’ fans.
Sir Thomas Sean Connery (25 August 1930 – 31 October 2020) was a Scottish actor. He was best known as the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films, every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again between 1962 and 1983.
Sean’s life is a ‘Rags to Riches’ Story. He was bestowed the knighthood by Queen Elizabeth ll in 2000 for services to film drama. He has also acted in films including Marnie, The Hill, Murder on the Orient Express, The Man Who Would Be King, A Bridge Too Far, Highlander, The Name of the Rose, The Untouchables, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, Dragonheart, The Rock and Finding Forrester. Connery retired from acting in 2006.
Sean Connery gave ‘body and soul’ to a fictional character ‘James Bond’ developed by Ian Fleming. This tall, dark, dashingly handsome actor was hugely appreciated for his British secret service agent’s character successfully portrayed him. He was part of first five ‘Bond’ moves, viz. ‘Dr No’, ‘From Russia with Love’, ‘Goldfinger’, Thunderball’ and ‘You Only Live Twice’.
He abandoned the ‘Bond’ role before being enticed back to play him twice in ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ and ‘Never Say Never Again’. Sean Connery died peacefully in his sleep and is survived by wife Micheline and sons Jason and Stephane.
