P L Deshpande’s ‘Ti Phulrani’ on silver screen, now
‘Pygmalion’ was a play written by genius playwright George Bernard Shaw which was translated in almost all the world languages. Back home in Maharashtra, Maharashtra’s most loved writer, humorist, playwright officially adapted it into a Marathi play ‘Ti Phulrani’. It is a cult play on Marathi theatre circuit till date. Late Bhakti Barve played first ‘Phulrani’ and it is considered an honour to get to reprise that role. What ‘Natsamrat’ is to male actors, ‘Phulrani’ is to female actors.
Many of the works of the talented author George Bernard Shaw have been successfully adapted till date. The 1964 hit Hollywood musical film ‘My Fair Lady‘ was based on his hit play ‘Pygmalion’ which is remembered still. This unforgettable love story, inspired by ‘Pygmalion’, is now taking a cinematic route in Marathi. ‘Ti Phulrani’ is getting made in a Marathi film titled ‘Phulrani, Avismaraniy Premkahani’. After the successful film ‘What’s Up Lagna’, director Vishwas Joshi will bring forth this ‘Phulrani’. A curiosity raising poster was revealed recently in lockdown.
The story, screenplay has been written by Vishwas Joshi and Guru Thakur. The audience will get to witness a completely new look of ‘Phulrani’ in this film. Although the names of the cast of the film are still kept under wraps, director Vishwas Joshi believes that the audience will get to see the unforgettable discovery of true love through this film.
The title of the film is based on famous Marathi poet Balakavi’s poem ‘Phulrani’. Music composer Nilesh Moharir will compose the poem in a new format. After the box office success of ‘Natsamrat’, ‘What’s up Lagn’ and the upcoming ‘Ghe Dabbal’, a lot is expected from the writer, director Vishwas Joshi with ‘Phulrani’.
Presented by Fincraft Media and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., the film is sure to be a feast for the audience. The film will start shooting at the end of 2020 and will be ready to hit the silver screen in 2021.
