Prachitee Ahhirao, Himani Shivpuri and Shubhangi Atre believe in recycling clothes!
&TV actors Prachitee Ahhirao, #HimaniShivpuri and #ShubhangiAtre believe in recycling clothes. They transform old clothes into stylish, eco-friendly bags.
International Plastic Bag Free Day, observed annually, raises awareness about the detrimental effects of single-use plastic bags on the environment. This day serves as a call to action for individuals, communities, and businesses worldwide to reduce their reliance on plastic bags. Many have embraced this initiative, sought alternatives, and engaged in recycling efforts. Among them are artists from &TV, who have recycled their old clothes into bags and significantly reduced their carbon footprint. Their dedication to a sustainable lifestyle is inspiring and should motivate us all to do our part. These include Prachitee Ahhirao (Vimla, Atal), Himani Shivpuri (Katori Amma, Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Shubhangi Atre (Angoori Bhabi, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai).
Prachitee Ahhirao, known for her role as Vimla in Atal, shares, “It is high time for everyone to realise how single-use plastic harms our environment. I stopped using plastic bags years ago. While we heavily rely on them for daily tasks, many alternatives are available. Recycling and upcycling are crucial if we want to save the world. For my daily needs, I use bags made from old clothes. Though many cloth bag options are on the market, I prefer using ones made from my old clothes. I believe in the transformative power of art. I have upcycled many of my old clothes into fashionable, useful bags, using fabric strips from old, knitted mufflers and sweaters to create smaller carry bags. A friend runs a brand that recycles waste into stylish bags, which I use when I want something fashionable. I have given these bags to many friends and co-stars, and they love them. Many have stopped buying from big brands and are switching to these eco-friendly options. Today, I highly recommend everyone stop using plastic bags and opt for upcycled materials instead.”
Himani Shivpuri, aka Katori Amma from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “I am committed to minimising plastic usage due to its detrimental environmental impact. Instead, I have taken up repurposing my old sarees and other clothing items into reusable bags for household and outdoor purposes. I always ensure I have cloth and jute bags in my car, prepared for any situation. I aim to make thoughtful decisions that align with our values and motivate others to appreciate the beauty and functionality of repurposed materials. By transforming waste into practical items, we have the potential to make a positive difference in our world.”
Shubhangi Atre, aka Angoori Bhabi from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai, adds, “I highly recommend that everyone consider switching from plastic to more environmentally friendly options such as paper bags, cloth bags, or bags made from upcycled materials. Upcycling involves creatively repurposing old items to make something new and improved. For example, I have personally repurposed my mom’s vintage sarees into stylish bags I proudly use for various occasions. Additionally, a talented friend gifted me a beautiful handbag made entirely from jute and old cotton strips, showcasing the beauty of upcycled products. I aim to inspire others to see the value in discarded items and make sustainable environmental choices.”
