Review : 30 Hours Survival – Gauraiya Live tries to pinpoint the drawbacks in the society!

With the construction boom in the country, big and small cities witness innumerable construction sites. The activity invloves builders, labourers, contractors, suppliers etc aplenty. A couple of decades back, the entire nation watched the rescue operation of a little boy, Prince, who had fallen in a 60 foot deep borewell. The proactiveness of the digital media and television channels made this incident national issue showcasing the callousness of the builders and government departments. In a newly released movie #30HoursSurvivalGauraiyaLive, similar incident is used by the writer, director #GabrielVats as the main plot of the story. The movie underlines the behavioral patterns of the people from different stratas of the society and throws a social message too.

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, facing the construction boom witnesses many constructions taking place. At one of these construction sites stays Rampal (Omkar Das), a labourer with his family comprising of wife (Seema Saini), elder daughter (Riddhi Gupta), son (Aarav Rangare) and a younger daughter Gauriya (Ada Singh). The family has a hand to mouth existence and when elder daughter’s would-be in-laws demand dowry Rampal gets doubly stressed. Around that time Gauriya falls in a 60 foot deep borewell and everybody start to try to rescue her to get out. Police department is informed, so is builder and the local corporator and MLA. The military gets involved in the rescue of Gauriya and after 30 hours she is successfully taken out of the deep pit.

The story is based on real incidents and the director has used Raja Bhoj as the narrator. Though the intention of the film is sincere it falters in execution. The writer and director look confused about which topic should be focused on. The first half covers characterizations and the situations. The second half deals with rescue operation. In the sub text the director talks about dowry system, greedy and emotion less builders, lecherous politicians, lethargic police department etc. But it dilutes the tragedy on hand. The length of 111 minutes is okay as the movie moves at an even pace. The military operation is bundled up in the the last 10 minutes. The music is good and the background score helps the narration. Cinematography is good too. All the actors including Omkar Das, Seema Saini, Riddhi Gupta, Aarav Rangare, Ada Singh have done a decent job.

30 Hours Survival – Gauraiya Live tries to pinpoint the drawbacks in the society and unsafe working conditions for the construction labourers and their families.
