Review : “Farrey” scores high marks without ‘Cheating’!
In recent times a number of films on education sector have been doing rounds. Some of them made on a small budget rocked the box office. Now another film on education sector is releasing and it showcases a different aspect. Farrey is made under Salman Khan’s SKF banner wherein his niece Alize (daughter of Alvira and Atul Agnihotri) is debuting. It covers the aspect of ‘Cheating’ in competitive examinations. Farrey is a slang meaning cheating during exams by using small chits. The movie has it’s heart at the right place and makes an impact. Farrey has been adapted from a Thai film Bad Genuis and the writer director Soumendra Padhi (Jamtara) has managed to indianise it with great ease.
Niyati (Alizeh) is an orphan but a bright student. She stays in an orphanage managed by a warden (Ronit B Roy) and his wife (Juhi Babbar). She attains highest rank in 10th board and gets admitted to a swanky school which offers her full scholarship. Because she is a bright student a couple of rich kids (Prasanna Bist and Zeyn Shaw) befriend her and asks her help in clearing exams. Niyati gets besotted by the filthy rich friends’ lifestyle and they strike a deal of she helping them in exams in exchange of substantial amount. Only thing is that the ‘helping’ is through ‘Farrey’. Another poor but bright student (Sahil Mehta) who too had received admission through scholarship lodges a complaint against them with the principal. But all of them lure him with huge amount of money and involve him in their ‘Farrey’ scheme. This cheating leads to many setbacks and heartbreaks. What transpires after and in between firms the crux of the story.
Farrey has a fresh story and a novel concept on hand. Director has managed to tell the story in simple but effective manner. The film could be termed as a teen crime thriller but no one is tainted as a villain. The circunstatiality is displayed with authenticity and sincerity. Direction is top notch and so are production values. Music by Sachin-Jigar helps the narration and the cinematography is excellent capturing the visuals in India and Australia beautifully. The main characters are played by newcomers and they do justice to their parts. Alize stands out in emotional scenes and her confidence on screen is appreciable. Prasanna Bist too catches everyone’s eyes with her good looks and convincing portrayal. Zeyn Shaw and Sahil Mehta too are very good. Ronit Roy and Juhi Babbar lend effective support.
“Farrey” definitely is a must watch film which scores high marks without ‘Cheating’.
