Review : Haryana : Sincere effort to showcase sensibilities of people from smaller places!
A lot of makers’ film titles have major cities or states’ names in the titles. #DiliKaThug, #NamasteLondon, #Bombay,Delhi6, #MissionKashmir, #LoveinTokyo, #GoGoaGone, #ChennaiExpress etc are a few in the list and to join it is a new movie titled #Haryana. Obviously it’s about the people from that state and their culture. Haryana directed by #SandeepBaswana incorporates Haryana’s lifestyle and culture in it. Though the story is about three brothers and their close knit family, the conflicts in their love-life makes the crux of the story. One of the bothers is actually in love with, today’s youngster’s crush, film star #AliaBhatt and ventures out of Haryana to get married to her. The innocence and affection towards film stars from small place is well etched out which’ll open many youngster’s eyes. It’s a family drama with a lot of humour stacked in it.
Haryana is primarily a story of three brothers, who are diverse in behaviour but very close to each. #ElderoneMahender(YashTonk) is a straight forward yet a shy person who takes care of the farming and other businesses of the family and is pushed to contest elections. In one of the marriage functions he falls for beautiful #Bimla(AshleshaSawant) and they are to have an arranged marriage. Middle one is #Jaiveer,(RobbieMairi) a college student who likes a girl #Vasudha(MonicaSharma) but she fancies someone else. Third one is the youngest #(AakarshanSingh) a spoilt kid who is loved by the whole family. His love-life entirely different. Fond of watching movies, he falls in love with actress Alia Bhatt and comes to Mumbai to marry her. All the three brothers try to win over their love but destiny holds something else for them. Undeterred they join hands and try to come over circumstances. How they tide over the difficulties in respective love lives forms the narrative of the movie.
Haryana doesn’t indulge in any intimate scenes and is devoid of vulgarity which is a plus for it. The director has shown the Haryanvi culture positively and the camera work captures the raw beauty of this northern state. The length could have been trimmed a bit to make it more effective. The production values are at par with the budget and don’t disappoint. Music and lyrics have Haryanvi flavour. Yash Tonk has done a good job as an innocent yet responsible brother and lover. His love interest #AshleshaSawant looks beautiful in North Indian attires and delivers a very good performance. Other are good in their respective roles.
Haryana is an sincere effort to showcase the story of people from smaller places in the country and the North Indian audience can relate to it and like it too.
