Review : ‘Hero of Nation Chandrashekhar Azad’ raises patriotic feelings!
In recent times biopics on historical figures have been accepted well by the audiences. The historical subject presented with authentic research is well taken by the viewers. Especially when a biopic is made on our freedom fighters, it raises the patriotic feelings of the viewers and that emotion could be experienced while watching recently released film, ‘Hero of Nation #ChandrashekharAzad’. From the title itself one must have noticed that it’s based on freedom fighter Chandrashekhar Azad who laid his life fighting the Britishers for the freedom of the nation. The true warrior like him daringly took on the mighty British empire with handful of people who were equally devoted to release our nation from the clutches of ruthless Brits. The courage and leadership qualities of Chandrashekhar Azad were unique and #BhagatSingh, #Sukhdev and #Rajguru were groomed by him who too laid life for the country.
The movie ‘Hero of Nation Chandrashekhar Azad’ undertakes the journey of Chandrashekhar from his childhood. Not much interested in studies he was always inclined towards fighting atrocities meted out to the common people by the British rulers. One day he leaves the house and reaches Mumbai where he starts an organisation, ‘Prajatantrik Sangh’ through which he, along with like minded people, to oppose British rule. In those days it was difficult to revolt as when caught British officer used to jail the revolutionaries. But not afraid of being caught Chandrashekhar Azad (Azad was the title given to him by the fellow revolutionaries for his deeds in freedom fight) was also referred as ‘Quicksilver’ because he used to slip away effortlessly from the clutches of police.
As every organisation needs funds, he decides to raid Government Treasury at Kakori and successfully executes that. He starts another organisation named, ‘Hindustani Socialist Republicans Association’ whose members are Bhagat Singh, Sukhbir, Rajguru among others. He grooms these youngsters and when they are jailed tries to release them by hook or crook. They had executed J P Sanders, a very high ranked British officer and later had bombed the British assembly. Bhagat Singh, Sukhbir, Rajguru were sentenced to death penalty and Azad approaches Nehru to bail them out. But Mahatma Gandhi and Pt Jawaharlal Nehru are against his violent ways to attain freedom and refuse to help him. Ultimately in a tussle with the then authorities Chandrashekhar Azad loses his life. He is one of the most respected freedom fighters of our country and the film salutes his efforts with utter genuineness.
The story is from the pages of history and the screenplay has been kept utmost authentic. But more work was needed to tighten the screenplay which could have made more impact. The runtime should have been curtailed by 10-15 minutes which could have been more effective. The film is jointly directed by Dheeraj Mishra and Raja Randeep Giri. The direction is good at points and cinematography is excellent. The film gets verbose at times and care should have been taken on that front. Music is passable but the background score helps the effectiveness of the important scenes. There are some scenes in the film where your eyes can become moist.
The lead hero of the film Ahmed Kabir Shadan has played the role of Chandrashekhar Azad very well. He has given life to the role of Chandrashekhar Azad in many scenes. Raza Murad has played the role of Azad’s father with great ease. Zarina Wahab has also brought alive the character of Chandrashekhar Azad’s mother. Ritu Sood has played the character of Durga Bhabhi very well. Puneet Agarwal has done justice to the character of Vishwanath Prasad. Kavita Thakur has also played her role quite accurately. Vivek Mishra has played the role of Bhagat Singh in a powerful manner.
‘Hero of Nation Chandrashekhar Azad’ a film made on the life of the courageous, fearless and great revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad raises the patriotic feelings.
