Review : Hoy Maharaja : This crime-comedy entertains!
It is said that it is easier to make everyone cry but very difficult to make them laugh. #Marathi has a tradition of making plenty of #comedyfilms as a lot of actors excel in that genre. In modern day comedic actors, #PrathameshParab is in top list. He, in a recently released film Hoy Maharaja, entertains viewers with his comic timing and offers an entertaining fare.
Ramesh aka Ramya (Prathamesh Parab) visits his maternal uncle, Mama, (Abhijit Chavan) in Mumbai. He goes for an interview of a manager but lands up as a peon in the same office. His Gujrathi boss Jigneshbhai or Jignes (Sameer Choughule) is not happy with his work and after Ramya commits one mistake Jignes throws him out of the office. In the meanwhile he meets a beautiful girl, Ayesha (Ankita Lande), and falls in her love. She too reciprocates but as Mama is unable to return funds loaned by Rashid Bhai (Sandeep Pathak), Rashid Kidnaps Ayesha. But a Don Anna (Vaibhav Mangale) take both Rashid and Ramya to task and to save Ayesha and Rashid’s sweerheart Sania (Sanika Kashikar), Ramya, Rashid and Mama take an illegal route. What transpires around it forms the crux of the story.
The story is typical mad comedy with witty one-liners interspersed everywhere. The screenplay has too many incidents and the climax is a bit jumbled up. The movie is on the lines of Rohit Shetty’s comedy films as one of the writers happens to be former’s ex-assistant. Director Shailesh Shetty keeps the proceedings comic but the editor should have made the film a bit pacy. Music is good and adds value to the story. Cinematography is good but the technical aspects should have been a bit better. Prathamesh Patab has his own style of comedy and delivers in style. His comic timing is impeccable and portrays his character sincerely. Abhijit Chavan’s slapstick comedy steals the show. Sandeep Pathak should have avoided copying Sayaji Sinde’s style of acting. Vaibhav Mangle is passable as he delivers an one dimensional character. Ankita Lande looks utterly beautiful and sparkles whenever she is on screen. She has acted well too.
Hoy Maharaja is a family entertainer and the set of comic actors tickle audiences’ funny bones.
