Review: Krispey Rishtey – A Musical Love Quadrangle with Old-School Charm!
Krispey Rishtey revives a forgotten tradition in Bollywood, offering a melodious throwback to an era where films frequently featured a dozen or more songs. In a nod to the old-school #RajshriProductions style, this film stands out with its 15-song soundtrack, yet notably, none of the tracks involve lip-syncing, adding a fresh twist to this nostalgic formula. The music, crafted by a collective of six talented composers—#VijayVerma, #ManojNayan, #NazakatShujat, #DhananjayKherr, #ShivangUpadhyay, and #NishantKamalVyas—plays an integral role in heightening the emotional gravity of the narrative.
The story centers on Karan (Jagat Singh), who finds himself torn between two women: the lively and extroverted Natasha (Manmeet Kaur), whom he loves, and the demure Anjali (Diljott), whom he is compelled to marry by his father. Despite Karan’s honesty about his affections for Natasha, Anjali fulfills her role as a dutiful wife, seeking solace in her friend Vinod (Ronit Kapill), who, to her surprise, harbors feelings for her. As Karan begins to appreciate Anjali’s gentle nature, his growing fondness is tempered by the realization of her closeness to Vinod, leading him to an unexpected decision that sets the stage for the film’s emotional climax.
While the plot may tread familiar ground, it’s the unique directorial approach by Jagat Singh that keeps the audience engaged. The seamless integration of the music into the storyline, free from the typical lip-syncing, serves to move the plot forward while enriching its emotional landscape. Each song, rendered by renowned artists like Shreya Ghoshal, KK, Papon, Jubin Nautiyal, Mohit Chauhan, Richa Sharma, and Nakash Aziz, brings an added layer of magic to the scenes.
On the performance front, Jagat Singh carries the weight of the film with considerable screen presence, making good use of his lead role. Diljott impresses with her expressive eyes and subtle emotional depth, especially in a role with fewer dialogues, while still radiating charm in traditional attire. Manmeet Kaur and Ronit Kapill fully embrace their more outgoing characters, delivering spirited performances.
Krispey Rishtey is a heartwarming emotional journey that delves into love, sacrifice, and selflessness, all set to a rich musical backdrop. Despite its familiar storyline, the film’s treatment and strong performances make it an engaging watch for lovers of old-school Bollywood drama, with music taking center stage in the narrative.
