Review : Life Is Good : Never give up!

The world is getting modernised every passing day and with the technological progress man feels smarter but the invention of #Robots couldn’t find a solution to human mind and feelings. In recent times a lot has been said about depression but only self help will help in overcoming that. Of course, there are a few other factors which help in curing that ‘disease’. #LifeIsGood movie gives a message to never give up in life and there always is a ray of hope at the end of the depressive tunnel. The movie deals with loneliness which ensues depression and how the hope can brighten one’s life. #Director #AnantMahadevan has dealt the subject with kid gloves and the kids in the movie win hearts, big time.

Rameshwar (Jackie Shroff) is a junior post master in a hilly area of North India. Unmarried Rameshwar feels utter lonely after demise of his loving mother. Having lost the will to live, he contemplates suicide. His attempt to suicide gets foiled by an accidentally broken window glass of his house. A 6-7 years old girl, Mishti (Saniya) while playing bat-ball breaks his window glass. Her chirpy and friendly behaviour makes him forget what he was going to do a while ago. She calls him a friend and slowly he longs to be with his youngest friend. He developes a solid bond with her and even saves her from her father taking away to Delhi against her wish. Years pass by and he and her aunt (Suneeta Sen Gupta) see the growing up of motherless Mishti. Mishti, in her teenage, (Ananya) has become a right student and when in college (Ankita) falls in love and gets married and moves to Chicago? Will that make Rameshwar face loneliness once again?

Life Is Good reminds us of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Mili. Anant Mahadevan has kept the narration simple but effective. The best part is that he never loses focus from the main plot. Though Rameshwar and Mishti’s Aunt are in close proximity, no love angle shown or even suggested between them. Also no attempt is shown to adopt Mishti by Rameshwar despite her father’s attempt to take her away. The music (Abhishek Ray) is very good and cinematography (Alphonse Roy) is excellent. Jackie Shroff delivers a solid performance and he looks (with a slight paunch) middle class working guy. He never goes overboard and his subtle portrayal helps the film. All the Mishtis, Saniya, Ananya and Ankita have done a good job but Ananya stands out with a natural streak in her acting. Suneeta Sen Gupta, Rajit Kapoor and others lend good support. The positivity the film exudes is commendable.

Life Is Good scores in all departments and is a must watch for the lovers of good cinema.
