Review : Musafira : Spectacular visual treat with marvellous performances!

In recent times a lot of #MarathiMovies are shot in #UnitedKingdom. Most of the places in London are recognisable by an average moviegoer. So producer director #PushkarJog ventured out to #Scotland for his new movie #Musafira. The unexplored locations look immensely beautiful on screen and act as one of the characters in the script. The skydiving and a visit to Scottish Island’s Isle of Skye are the highlights of the movie. Director Pushkar Jog has explored the theme of friendship and intermingling emotional turmoils beautifully. There have been movies like Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Chhichhore, Dil Chahata Hai etc which dealt with friendship bonds, reunion and unresolved conflicts effectively. Musafira too treads the similar path and is reasonably successful in evoking sympathy for the characters.

Musafira is a story of five friends who meet in London after 15 years for a reunion. Nishank (Pushkar Jog) who is a musician, Megha (Pooja Sawant) who is a successful actress, Mithila (Disha Pardeshi) a darling of the group, Kriya (Smritty Sinha) who stays in London and is nursing a wound of losing her fiancée and Amey (Pushkaraj Chirputkar) who is a successful businessman from the interiors of Maharashtra, are these five friends who has taken time out from their busy schedules for the old times sake. But each one, though look happy, are battling inner conflicts. Nishank is in a rocky marriage and just for the sake of his son keeps adjusting with an outgoing, nasty and nagging wife Anagha (Meera Sarang). In fact He and Kriya were a couple during the college days but due to unavoidable circumstances he had gone to India and got married. In fact Amey is still unmarried and the reason for it is revealed in an interesting fashion in the latter half of the movie. Megha, though extremely successful and popular actor, too is in a troubled marriage and is suffering depression. Mithila is a happy go lucky girl who keeps the group bound with her vivaciousness. The insecurities and the conflict in the inter personal relationships come to the fore marring the spirit of reunion. What transpires around it forms the crux of the story.

The story is not novel but the modern touch to friendships and reunion in the script makes it watchable.

Pushkar Jog has done a decent job as a director and has extracted good performances from his artists. Pushkar has avoided pairing with Pooja Sawant and it’s surprising but refreshing.

The movie is a visual treat and the cinematography is excellent. The music is good and title song sung by Vishal Dadlani is outstanding and stays with you. The production values are high the editing is good. Pushkar Jog delivers a nice performance. Pooja Sawant excels in emotionally charged scenes and she has pulled off this intricate character successfully. Newcomer Disha Pardeshi has a good screen presence and Smritty Sinha brings her experience from Bhojpuri films to the fore and delivers a beautiful performance. Pushkaraj Chitputkar excels in comedic situations as well as serious scenes. He has nailed the character effectively. Chetan Mohture (Pooja’s love interest), Madhav Devchakke (Mithila’s Doctor) and others offer good support.

Musafira is a spectacular visual treat and a one time watch.
