Navras

Review : ‘Navras Katha Collage’ touches many important and sensitive issues of the society!

In classical Indian performing Arts, nine emotions are expressed through various art forms. These nine emotions are called Navras which are Shringar – Love or Beauty, Hasya – Laughter, Karuna – Sorrow, Rundra- Anger, Veera – Courage or Heroism, Bhay – Fear, Bibhasta – Repelling or Disgusting, Adbhut – Surprise or Wonder and Shant – Peace or Tranquility. A new film Navras showcases all these Rasas through nine stories. Praveen Hingonia’s film ‘Navras Katha Collage’ is a wonderful confluence of 9 stories.

The story of Navras Katha Collage touches many important and sensitive issues of the society.
The first story is about Koyal’s marriage to Rohit. Rohit leaves Koyal and goes to Dubai. This story of a greedy man for dowry touches the heart. The second story “Kyon” is the story of Ruhana’s life. Inspired by the Delhi bus gang rape, Ruhana is gang raped and murdered. The main accused Jaggu (Praveen Hingonia) is hanged.
The third story “Not Fit the Bill” is about Purushottam Lal Mishra (Praveen Hingonia) who comes to Mumbai with a dream of becoming an actor like Nawazuddin Siddiqui. This story is full of humour and Praveen Hingonia has done a great job.

The next story “Khilona” is a story of domestic violence.
The film gives the message that the mental torture in married life is dangerous. In “Main Bhagat Singh Banna Chahta Hoon” the protagonist is sent to Pakistan for spying and gets caught. “Samay Chakra” is the story of auto driver’s heart-wrenching ordeal. “What happened in Suhaagraat” is the story of divorce on the second day of marriage. One story “Happy Marriage Anniversary” is the story of shocking revelations on the wedding anniversary. The last story of the film “Santaan” is a very charming story on the relationship and emotions of a father and son.

All the stories are well scripted and writer, directo and lead actor Praveen Hingonia has done a good job in all the departments. He plays nine roles effortlessly and has done justice to them. His style of telling stories is also unique. The music and cinematography is good and special applause to the art team and the make up artists. Overall it’s an entertaining film which covers all the Nine Rasas.
